Jane is fictitious but her words were very real and can often be heard in conversations across the villages and towns of the Bega Valley and beyond. She represents the many young women of the Far South Coast who were so cruelly disadvantaged over the closure of maternity service at Pambula District Hospital. Jane speaks out against what she sees as the degradation of human rights that resulted from actions taken by the NSW Health Department under the leadership of The Hon. John Della Bosca BA MLC, The Hon. Barbara Perry, The Hon. John Hatzistergos, and The Hon.Carmel Tebbutt. During 2008, 2009 and 2010 she wrote 20 letters to Health Ministers Della Bosca, Perry, Hatzistergos and Tebutt in the hope that they might begin to see the plight she and her friends faced. None of her letters were answered.
